Curator’s Talk: November 30, 6:30pm, Preview 7:00-8:00pm

In the 1950s, many American artists turned their backs on convention and embraced a radical new form of painting known as Abstract Expressionism.

In the subsequent decades newer art movements emerged, yet the legacy of Abstract Expressionism is permanent, as the exhibit Bay Area Contemporary Abstract reveals.

By understanding the methods and meanings of the Abstract Expressionist artists, we can come to a richer, more meaningful experience of the paintings by artists included in the library’s exhibit and also understand how they connect to a fascinating history that includes Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, and others.
